Bio

Many artists struggle to establish their musical identity, laboriously trying on different musical styles like a piece of clothing, looking to find what fits. But there are others that emerge fully formed, in full command of their craft, their identity and their music. Inna Oye fits firmly in the latter category. With his forthcoming project, ‘Low Self Esteem’, and mixtape, ‘LOSER’, Inna plans to create a record that is captivating, moving, and will prove that he is one who can create music which feels familiar in the best possible way, while striking out on its own territory.

A New York City native, who grew up in the South Bronx before moving to Queens, Inna spent his early years engulfed in music.“I was raised in a musical environment. My grandmother’s record collection was deep. She played everything from James Brown, to Mahalia Jackson, to Kurtis Blow.” At age 8, Inna had to do what every child his age had to do when company was over, perform. With his best Michael Jackson impersonation, Inna impressed his grandmother’s guests with how realistic his performance was. “The look on everybody’s face is what I remember most. I didn’t think about it at the time, but that was my first performance ever!”

From the opening notes of the John Legend sampled, Tru Soul produced “Just Relax”, you instantly hear that Inna works endlessly to perfect his craft. With his insight, and ability to mesh perfectly with any beat, the album’s first single, ‘Speak My Language’, causes listeners to experience an eargasm for the very first time. “When I wrote that record, I was really fed up with the state of hip hop. I wanted to take what the so called ‘ballers’ were bragging about, and make it obsolete. The beat helped me find my way through the record, and I think it came out perfect”.

Inna is currently on the road, honing his live show and continuing the recording process for ‘Low Self Esteem’. “It’s gaining momentum,” Inna says. “Whether it’s with DJ Uncle Tone, DJ Tayrok, or a live band behind me, I’m giving people what they have been craving since the mid ‘90s, good music, accompanied by a good show!” Inna is writing and performing his songs precisely the way he’s always wanted, a culmination of where he’s been and where he’s going, and in such a way that is sure to win him the notoriety that is demanded by the depth and quality of his music.
